Descent:
His mother died during childbirth (took her own life as custom of the Lightbringers, they do not bring new life into the universe without doing so when their population is above a certain number in a star system)
Father is the current head of the Lightbringers, cold and fanatically dedicated to the cause, uses and abuses Brooks throughout childhood because of the loss of his wife and cult motivations, doesn't have a good personal relationship with Brooks.
Brooks was born with Albinism and has red eyes, silver hair, and pale skin naturally. This condition strangely allowed the Lightbringers to manage to alter and clone his DNA to create a stable clone when all other attempts to do so had ended in failure. This condition was also twisted by the cult into meaning he was a gift from the Gods to create the end and they isolated him from his peers since he was a child as a result.
Psychology:
Raised by religious fanatics within the Lightbringers cult. Brutally molded into a smart athletic individual and recruited as a scientist as an adult.
Forced through the cloning process young (age 10) to remove Brooks from being recruited to the frontlines of the Lightbringers' violent crusades due to parental ties and his use scientifically.
The Lightbringers don't think of created intelligences as real life so they are fine tweaking deadly clones as super soldiers to fight and kill heretics for their cause. Brooks finds this contradictory and hypocritical considering their beliefs. Instead, he personally hates created intelligences due to being made responsible for Hyte's actions since he was cloned at 10. Hates that creators are made to take responsibility for their creations going rogue on their own, for obvious reasons.
Brooks once thought he could turn the Lightbringers around upon inheriting his father's position and researching on how to live in the deep cold of the void without stars or heat systems. His father put an end to this when he was twenty by refusing to let his son take over his position and instead announcing the 'Great Purge', a last push to eliminate the last remnants of life in the universe, thus stating that the next generation did not need to inherent the position because it would be the End in the current leader's lifetime.
Broken out of the mindset of the cult through discovering a desire to live a life away from the cycle of abuse after realizing that change was impossible to create within it. Because of this, he develops an intimate yet volatile relationship with Hyte as a rebellion and comfort from it.
Said intimate relationship is toxic from the Lightbringers expectations on how Brooks should treat Hyte and the cult's pressure and dogmas upon him. It only intensifies when [redacted].
Brooks goes through a year of torture from his own father, both in the public eye and in private. Finally snaps when his father puts him up for a ritual sacrifice despite how much he's done to make amends. Breaks Hyte out to aid his own escape and hinder the Lightbringers greatly by taking the source of their armies.
Motivations:
Brooks has an intense desire to live out of spite of the teachings of the Lightbringers. He doesn't see it as shameful to do anything in his power to do so, including coercion or extortion.
